Contained within this distribution are files for Japanese Katakana and
Hiragana fonts. Both bitmapped and copyrighted outline fonts are provided.
Characters are in calligraphic style. Characters for all the phonetic sounds
are included. There are also a few additional symbols which are used in
standard Japanese type setting.
If you use these fonts, please pay the shareware fee of $10 US to support further development
of fasinating and useful software. The outline fonts are copyrighted, but you can them distribute
freely as long as you include all files in this archive. You may not distribute these fonts for
commericial purposes without my permission.

README file - this file.
The characters are arranged in groups of five according to vowel and consonant sounds.
Hopefully this will make it easier to memorize where each character is on the standard
QWERTY keyboard. A list of the keys mapped to the romanized Japanese sounds follows
below for reference. This list is probably somewhat confusing but provides some help
locating the characters. Once the fonts are loaded onto your systems, you might want to
create your own map diagram using your favorite WP or DTP software.
The Katakana outline font ID is 4932900.
The Katakana bitmap font ID is 1891.
The Hiragana outline font ID is 4985301.
The Hiragana bitmap font ID is 2827.
The basic sound characters with superscripted quotes are produced with the option keys
combinations and the characters with superscripted circles are produced with
shift-option key combinations. For example, the 'm' key represents the phonetic sound
'hi', option-m is 'bi' ('he' with quotes) and shift-option-m is 'pi' ('he' with circle
superscript). Hope that makes sense!
Unfortunately there are no option-n, option-u, or option-i key combinations. Instead,
typing option-nn, option-uu, and option-ii produce the characters.

Note:
If you use Word 5, smart quotes must be turned off in order to use characters represented
by the single quote key. The single quote is used for the N phonetic sound. If you need
smart quotes on, the N characters can be type by using the Word 5 character map. The
character map is displayed by typing command-option-q.
